The Hunger Games franchise is already a huge hit, grossing nearly $3 billion at the box office. And now, director Francis Lawrence and star Rachel Zegler are feeling the pressure as they bring the prequel novel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, to the big screen in November.
What Comes Next?
With the success of the original trilogy, talks about what's next for The Hunger Games have already begun. And it seems that director Francis Lawrence is more than willing to dive back into the world of Panem if the right opportunity presents itself.
"If Suzanne has another thematic idea that she feels fits into the world of Panem — whether that's with new people [or] familiar characters [like] Finnick, Haymitch, whoever — I'd be really interested in looking at it and being a part of it. But I don't have any pull of just going, 'I would love to do Finnick's games.' He's a great character, but what's the thematic underpinnings that make it worth telling and relevant?"
It's safe to say that if The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes proves to be a success, there will likely be even more Hunger Games content in the future. But there are also fans who would prefer to see Lawrence move onto other projects, like the highly anticipated Constantine sequel with Keanu Reeves.
