Despite a downturn in quality for some recent MCU movies, the franchise is hoping to bounce back at the box office with the upcoming film The Marvels. While the pandemic has affected movie attendance, one film managed to surpass the $1 billion mark: Spider-Man: No Way Home. However, the upcoming The Marvels may have found a solution to boost its box office performance.

China Release Confirmed

A day-and-date release has been confirmed for The Marvels in China on November 10th. Despite some marketing confusion with the film being referred to as Captain Marvel 2, the Chinese release is expected to significantly boost the film's revenue. The first Captain Marvel film earned $154 million in China in 2018, and with the MCU starting to regain popularity in the territory, The Marvels could potentially earn over $100 million.

Preventing Underperformance

If The Marvels sees similar success to other MCU films in China, it could help prevent the film from becoming another under-performer in the franchise. With the potential for a significant windfall in China, the film has a better chance of avoiding disappointment at the box office.
